OEB promotes Hydrogen Valleys in Cyprus

The Employers & Industrialists Federation (OEB), in collaboration with the Cyprus Hydrogen Association, which is a member of the Cyprus Federation and partners from other European countries, actively participates in the effort to develop and utilize green hydrogen as an important alternative green form of renewable energy. Through the European project TRIERES, 26 partners from five countries join forces, with the support of the European Union through the Clean Hydrogen Partnership.

TRIERES is the first co-funded project for the development of a “Hydrogen Valley” in which Cyprus participates through OEB. The project focuses on the development of a Green Hydrogen Valley in Greece, with a production capacity of 2,410 tons of hydrogen per year. The consortium includes businesses, academic and research institutions, public organizations and local government bodies.

Through its participation in TRIERES, OEB seeks to transfer to Cyprus the know-how, experience and good practices gained from the development of a real Hydrogen Valley. The ultimate goal is to examine how this experience can be used in the specific conditions of Cyprus and contribute to the development of hydrogen applications that meet the needs of the Cypriot economy.

As part of the project, OEB hosted on September 22, 2026, at the Thalassa Museum in Ayia Napa, the opening event of the Annual Meeting of the TRIERES partners. The event was honored by the presence and greetings of the Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, Mr. Michalis Damianos, the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannettou, and the President of the Cyprus Hydrogen Association, Mr. Makis Keetis. Representatives of the project partners, businesses and organizations active in the hydrogen sector were also present.

OEB will continue to actively contribute to shaping the right conditions for the development of the hydrogen economy in Cyprus, supporting initiatives that promote the energy transition and create new opportunities for Cypriot businesses to invest, innovate and enhance their competitiveness.
