SHORTAGES OF NURSING STAFF
HOW MANY MORE STUDIES WILL WE WAIT FOR DECISIONS TO BE MADE?
Another study by an independent expert commissioned by the Ministry of Health, absolutely confirms what all those who have contact with the health sector know and which has been documented for two years by the Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB): The country is in immediate need of about 600 additional nurses.
A need that not only does not decrease over time, but increases rapidly and multiplies the pressures on patients and the quality of health services.
The State, the Government and the Parliament, must put an end today to the prolonged pending issue that plagues the public health of the Country.
The incentives announced by the Ministry to attract nursing students are useful but will bring any result in 4-5 years from today. Today’s pressing needs, however, cannot remain hostage to trade union rigidity and State hesitancy.
OEB has submitted a series of proposals for an immediate defusing of the problem. Dr. Yfantopoulos’ study and its findings remove any argument for the non-implementation of immediate and effective solutions. We expect decisions and immediate actions.
