Meeting between OEB and CERA: Focus on reducing the cost of electricity

A meeting between the leadership of the Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB), led by its President George Pantelides, and the senior management of the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA) took place recently. The subject of the meeting was to discuss the conclusions of the High Level Laboratory on Reducing Electricity Costs, which was organized by OEB on July 15, 2026, with the participation of all stakeholders.

The aim of OEB is to continue the institutional dialogue, the exchange of views and the discussion of suggestions that could contribute to the improvement of the operation of the electricity market and the gradual de-escalation of energy costs.

The discussion focused on the main issues that have emerged during the first year of operation of the Competitive Electricity Market, with an emphasis on the quality and timely availability of metering data, market clearance procedures, as well as the need to enhance transparency and predictability of charges.

Particular reference was made to addressing production cuts from Renewable Energy Sources, accelerating the development of energy storage systems, modernizing networks, as well as utilizing smart meters and dynamic pricing for the benefit of businesses and consumers.

The President of OEB underlined the importance of coordination and cooperation between all stakeholders to address high energy costs. In this context, OEB will continue to take initiatives and promote suggestions that can lead to tangible results for the benefit of the economy and society.
