On 24/3/2026 in Nicosia, the Cyprus Employers & Industrialists Federation (OEB) held a Circular Economy Certificate Award Ceremony for the Measure “Promotion of the Circular Economy in Hotel Facilities”. The event was the culmination of a long, methodical and systematic effort, which began 4 years ago, for the green transition of the Cypriot tourism product through the integration of the principles of the Circular Economy.
The Measure “Promotion of the Circular Economy in Hotel Facilities”, was implemented by OEB in collaboration with the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, with funding from the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism of the European Union, in the framework of the Recovery and Resilience Plan of Cyprus 2021-2026 and highlighted the readiness of our hotel businesses to adapt to modern environmental and economic challenges.
In his address, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mr. Costas Koumis, praised the initiative of OEB and underlined the need to upgrade the tourism model of Cyprus through sustainability and the practical implementation of the Circular Economy.
The Minister of Finance, Mr. Makis Keravnos, in his greeting, focused on the fiscal and developmental value of the transition to circular business models and congratulated OEB for the implementation of the Measure, while he made special reference to the absorption by our country of the resources of the Recovery and Resilience Facility.
The President of OEB, Mr. George Pantelides, stressed that Cypriot tourism is leading the green transition, as with the tool of OEB’s Circular Economy Certification Scheme, it upgrades its quality footprint and strengthens its long-term strategic position.
The President of OEB outlined the enormous challenges faced by our tourism due to the crisis in the Middle East and mentioned that OEB together with the tourism operators, mainly STEK and PASYXE, from the first day has been in productive cooperation with the Ministers of Finance, Labor and Tourism, promoting proposals for targeted state Plans to support business activity in the tourism sector and employees in the wider sector.
