Regarding the above issue, you are informed that following the political agreement announced by the President of the Commission, Ms. Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the USA, Mr. Donald Trump, on July 27, 2025, as well as the joint statement of August 21, 2025, that the EU will immediately proceed with specific measures:
- Removing tariffs on all industrial products originating in the US entering the EU and granting preferential access for certain sensitive agricultural and fishery products.
- Extension of the EU-US Joint Statement of 21 August 2020 (Regulation (EU) 2020/2131) on lobster, by broadening the scope to include processed (prepared) lobster. (will have retroactive effect from August 1, 2025).
The opening of the preliminary debate on the above two legislative proposals took place on September 4, 2025, in the context of the Meeting of the Trade Policy Committee (Deputies).
At the meeting, the European Commission asked member states to send any comments in writing by 22 September. Therefore, our request is that you ask your members to study the attached proposals for a Regulation and their Annexes with the product lists (they concern zero duties, proportional duties and tariff quotas) and to send us any comments, comments on the sectors/products that concern them and how they may be affected, by Thursday, 18 September 2025 (end of day), ahead of the next meeting of the Trade Policy Committee (Alternates) to be held on 25 September, where the views of the Member States will be presented and considered.
