Press Release 17th SLRNetwork meeting: Discussing the impact of Artificial Intelligence on business operations and the implementation of prevention and management policies for alcohol and addictive substance use in the workplace

The implementation of prevention and management policies for alcohol and addictive substance use in the workplace, and the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on businesses, were the discussion items at the 17th meeting of the Industrial Relations and Human Resources Management Professionals Network (SLRNetwork), which was held on July 23rd 2025. The meeting which was organised by the Cyprus Employers & Industrialists Federation (OEB) was attended by more than 130 sector professionals.

The event was addressed by Mr. Michalis Antoniou, Director General of OEB, and Dr. Christos Mina, President of the Cyprus National Addictions Authority (NAAC).

During her presentation, Ms. Lida Christodoulou, NAAC Policy Officer, presented the Policy and Procedures Plan for the Prevention, Detection and Handling of the use of Alcohol and Illicit Substances in the Workplace which was developed by the Authority and can be tailored to the individual needs of businesses.

In his intervention, Mr. Stylianos Christoforou, Managing Partner at Stylianos Christoforou & Co LLC, outlined the key obligations for businesses arising from the implementation of the European Regulation on AI.

During the final presentation, Ms. Irini Loizidou Nikolaidou, Commissioner for Personal Data Protection of the Republic of Cyprus, discussed the aspect of personal data protection when such data is maintained or processed by businesses using AI assisted software or tools.

A networking reception was held after the completion of the presentations, giving the Network’s members the opportunity to connect and interact with the speakers.

The SLRNetwork meetings are part of the Project titled “Sound Industrial Relations, Contemporary Enterprises III”, which is implemented within the framework of the Cohesion Policy Program “Thaleia 2021-2027” with co-funding from the EU.
