The Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) unequivocally condemns as unacceptable the threats of strike measures announced today by the hotel employees’ unions OUXEKA – SEK and SYXKA – PEO.
The labor disputes they invoke are already before the competent service of the Ministry of Labor for resolution. This strike blatantly violates not only the Industrial Relations Code and labour institutions, but also any notion of respect for trilateral cooperation.
At a time of great international uncertainty and enormous challenges, the hotel workers’ unions choose the conflict, in the middle of the tourist season, ignoring that any strike measures constitute a blow to all other workers and businesses that rely on tourism.
OEB calls on the sector’s trade unions to behave responsibly towards the country and to withdraw the threats of measures.
At the same time, we call on the competent Ministry of Labor to intervene decisively to prevent the disruption of the sector and the victimization of tourists.
