Health Service Providers: We hope the Government and the Parliament will assume their responsibilities

Trade union intransigence cannot victimize patients and providers

On the initiative of the Federation of Employers and Industrialists (OEB), an extraordinary meeting of private sector health service providers was held on the afternoon of 31/03/2026, with the exclusive topic of discussion being the examination of the situation due to the acute shortage of nursing staff and the possibility of taking response measures.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Health, Mr. Neophytos Charalambidis, who informed the participants about the actions he is taking and the solutions promoted by the Government for a definitive solution to the problem.

The Minister began his statement with the clear statement that he and the Government recognize the magnitude of the problem, which he identified as around 600 nurses. He added that he will study specific measures for short-term easing of shortages and in the medium term a permanent and definitive solution to the problem.

After the Minister’s departure from the meeting, it was unanimously decided by the participants that taking into account the Minister’s positions and in order to give him additional time, the implementation of any dynamic measures will be reviewed.

OEB and health service providers have submitted a series of responsible suggestions that in no way negatively affect nurses and we hope that the State will assume its responsibilities towards patients and the health ecosystem of the country.
