The kick-off meeting of Hotels4Climate

The Cyprus Federation of Employers and Industrialists (OEB), the Institute of Greek Tourism Confederation (INSETE) and the adelphi research a German nonprofit institution, are participating in the European Hotels4Climate project, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the Hotel Industry in Cyprus and Greece . The project is funded by the European Climate Initiative (EUKI). The whole effort is coordinated by OEB.

The proect aims to identify greenhouse gas emissions from selected four- and five-star hotel activities and provide them with the necessary tools & services for actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The actions of the project include, inter alia, reflecting the current state of the hotel sector in Cyprus and Greece in terms of energy saving, energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, selection of good practices, capacity building workshops and hotel staff training. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and saving energy, creating an information exchange base and good practice platform.

The benefits from participating in this project are multiple and significant, as the reduction of GHG emissions will result from the reduction of energy consumption and the implementation of more rational resources and waste management, which can in turn result in reduced operating costs of hotels. At the same time, the implementation of the project will contribute to the achievement of Cyprus’ national targets for GHG emissions reduction.

The kick-off meeting of Hotels4Climate took place on November 7, 2019 at the premises of OEB in Nicosia. During the meeting the partners identified their next actions for the implementation of the project.
