Construction Site Inspection Campaign on Occupational Safety and Health Issues

The Department of Labour Inspection (TEE), the competent authority for occupational safety and health issues, informs through the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) that during the months of March, June, July and September 2025, it will conduct a special targeted campaign of inspections of construction sites.

The Construction Sector is categorized as a high-risk sector with a high Accident Index and the highest Accident Severity Index.

In recent years, there has been an increase in construction activity and despite the fact that a decrease in the Accident Index has been recorded, it was decided to design a targeted campaign taking into account the violations detected during site inspections, as well as the causes of accidents, occupational diseases and dangerous incidents that occurred in recent years during the execution of works on construction sites.

The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness among all those involved in construction projects and to implement preventive and protective measures to reduce accidents, occupational diseases and dangerous incidents related to activities in this sector.

The campaign also aims to check the compliance of the project stakeholders, e.g. project owners, designers/supervisors, contractors, subcontractors, with the provisions of the Occupational Safety and Health Legislation.

For information purposes, a list of control points together with the corresponding explanations is attached as an Annex.

More information on Safety and Health issues in constructions is available on the website of the Technical Chamber of Greece, as well as relevant information leaflets on the basic provisions of the Occupational Safety and Health (Minimum Requirements for Temporary or Mobile Construction Sites) Regulations of 2015 ( K.D.P. 410/2015), the basic obligations of the Project Owner (owner), the Designer, the Contractor and the duties of the Safety and Health Coordinator in the preparation of the project study ( A&Y Study Coordinator) and the Coordinator for safety and health issues during the execution of the project (Execution Coordinator).

In addition, the Technical Chamber of Greece has published a new Guide on Construction Safety and Health issues, which is addressed to all those involved in the construction sector and provides practical solutions for the prevention of risks in order to avoid accidents at work, occupational diseases and dangerous incidents.

This Guide is a translation into the Greek language of the publication BAUSTEINE, of the German Institute for Compulsory Insurance and Accident Prevention in the Construction Sector “Berufsgenossenschaft der Bauwirtschaft (BG BAU)”, with the permission of BG BAU for exclusive use in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, and in it references are made to the relevant provisions of the Cypriot Legislation.
