OEB strengthens its action in the Defense and Space Industry

As part of its upgraded action in the fast-growing sectors of the defence and space industry, the Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) participated in the Defence Industry Info Day & the Greece–Cyprus Defence Industry Day, which took place in Athens on September 24, 2026.

The event was organized by the Ministry of National Defence of Greece, with the participation of the Ministry of Defence of Cyprus and representatives of businesses and institutions from Greece and Cyprus. OEB was represented by the Head of the Business Development Department, Michalis Gregoriou.

The defence and space industries are becoming increasingly strategic and economically important at European level. The two sectors are now inextricably linked, as space technologies, satellite communications, observation systems, cybersecurity and advanced digital technologies are critical infrastructures for defence and security.

The coupling of defence and space creates a new field of technological and industrial development, with significant potential for research and innovation, development of high value-added products and services, attracting investment and creating new partnerships. At the same time, it strengthens Europe’s resilience, strategic autonomy and ability to respond to new geopolitical and technological challenges.

For Cyprus, these developments create significant prospects. The domestic defence and space industry ecosystem has businesses and research institutions with expertise in areas such as information technology, communications, unmanned systems, satellite applications, cybersecurity and other advanced technologies, which can be leveraged in both civil and defence applications.

OEB is constantly strengthening its action and presence in these two strategic sectors, with the aim of contributing to the formation of a stronger and more extrovert Cypriot defence and space ecosystem, as well as to the more substantial interconnection of industry with research, technology and innovation.

In this direction, OEB is proceeding with the development of new initiatives for the defense and space industry for the benefit of the Cypriot economy.
