You are informed about an announcement by the Department of Environment on the implementation of Article 5 (5) of Regulation (EU) 2025/40 on Packaging and Packaging Waste (PPWR), regarding the control of PFAS substances in packaging that come into contact with food.
The relevant obligation applies from 12 August 2026 and provides for specific concentration limits for PFAS substances in food packaging placed on the market in the European Union. Therefore, businesses that manufacture, import or place packaging or packaged food on the market are invited to assess the packaging they use and ensure that they have the necessary compliance documentation from their suppliers.
It is noted that the Department of Environment is preparing a relevant interpretative Guide, the publication of which is expected in September 2026.
