The Cyprus Furniture and Woodworking Industry Association (PASYVEX) held a meeting with the Director General of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Marios Panayides, and the Director of Secondary Technical, Vocational Education and Training, Dr. Elias Markatzis.
The purpose of the meeting was to present the proposal of PASYVEX for the creation of a university curriculum in Wood Technology, Design and Furniture Industry, in order to create a new generation of scientists who will meet the needs of the Cypriot industry.
This initiative is a continuation of the long-standing actions of PASYVEX in the field of education. It is recalled that, following the initiative of PASYVEX, the program “CNC – CNC Design and Technology – Carpentry Industry” was created at the Post-Secondary Institutes of Vocational Education and Training (MIEEK), which gives the opportunity to acquire modern technical knowledge and skills for working in the industry.
The success of this programme has shown that when education works with industry, the results are substantial. Today, however, the needs of businesses are even greater. The industry needs university-level graduates with knowledge in design, wood technology, manufacturing, and innovation.
For this reason, PASYVEX took the initiative to prepare and present a comprehensive proposal to the Ministry of Education, with the aim of creating the first university curriculum in Cyprus for the furniture and carpentry sector.
PASYVEX is not limited to highlighting the problems of the sector. It works systematically, submits proposals and cooperates with the competent bodies, with the aim of creating better prospects for businesses, employees and young people who will choose to operate in the sector.
