Meeting of the President of OEB with the High Commissioner of the United Kingdom

The President of the Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB), Mr. George Pantelides, held a meeting with the United Kingdom’s High Commissioner to Cyprus, Mr. Michael Tatham CMG, in the presence of the Director General of OEB, Mr. Michalis Antoniou, as well as Ms. Elena Orphanides, Director of Trade at the British High Commission in Nicosia.

During the meeting, there was an exchange of views on the prospects for further strengthening the economic and trade relations between Cyprus and the United Kingdom, with particular emphasis on the expansion of trade, the strengthening of investments and the development of partnerships between businesses of the two countries.

Particular reference was also made to the tourism sector, where the importance of the British market for the Cypriot economy was underlined, as well as the need to maintain the positive momentum recorded in arrivals from the United Kingdom.

The High Commissioner reiterated that, despite developments in the wider region, Cyprus remains at the lowest level of the UK’s travel advice, with no restrictions or advice to avoid travel. As he mentioned, the assessment of the British authorities confirms that British citizens continue to choose Cyprus with confidence, which demonstrates that our country remains a safe and reliable tourist destination.

At the same time, it was noted that according to data from Hermes Airports, about 30 inbound flights from the United Kingdom are recorded daily with occupancy rates of more than 90%, which reflects the continued confidence of the British market in Cyprus.

The meeting took place in a very positive atmosphere and confirmed the common will to further strengthen cooperation between Cyprus and the United Kingdom in areas of mutual interest.
