The Department of Electromechanical Services, as the competent authority, draws the attention of all those who are active in the field of electrical installations that, according to the relevant provisions of the Electricity Legislation:
- No electrical installation (new, addition or modification of an existing electrical installation) shall be supplied with electricity, unless it has been previously inspected and successfully inspected, in order to ascertain its compliance with the requirements of paragraph (2) of Regulation 46 of the Electricity Regulations.
- In accordance with Regulation 46(5), subparagraph (e) (ii), after the completion of the installation of the consumer’s electrical equipment and before its electrification, an inspection is carried out:
- in the case of electricity supply from the transmission and distribution network, by the owner of the network, i.e. the Electricity Authority of Cyprus
- in the case of electricity supply from a private electricity production system, without connection to the transmission and distribution network, by the Director of the Department of Electromechanical Services
- After the inspection and inspection, a Certificate of Suitability of the electrical installation is issued.
- At the same time, according to the relevant provisions of the Electricity Legislation, all those who are active in the field of Electrical Engineering must possess the relevant Certificates of Competence and Registration, which are issued by the Licensing Authority, regardless of whether they are employed by companies that are licensed. An exception to this is personnel who carry out practical training under the supervision of another licensed person, in order to be able to be licensed, as specified in relevant Regulations in the Electricity Regulations.
- The execution of electrical installations by unlicensed persons and the connection of an electrical installation without prior control and inspection and issuance of the relevant Certificate of Suitability, violates the provisions of the aforementioned Legislation.
- I draw your attention to the dangers posed by the supply of electricity to an electrical installation without prior inspection and I point out that any person who acts in violation or fails to comply with the provisions of the Regulations is guilty of an offence.
