The Promotion and Protection of Breastfeeding (Amendment) Law of 2025

The Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) informs all Members that the Law on the Promotion and Protection of Breastfeeding (Amendment) Law 103(I)/2025 was voted by the House of Representatives and published on Tuesday, 25 June 2025 in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Cyprus.

 

The main amendments introduced by the new legislation are as follows:

Employers’ obligations for the Creation of Breastfeeding Rooms:

  • For all workplaces, public and private, larger than 50 sq.m., the employer must:
    • or create a permanent breastfeeding room exclusively for breastfeeding or pumping/storing milk,
    • or provide temporary space for the same needs.

Employer’s Obligation to Inform:

  • The employer must keep his staff informed of the place within the workplace where the permanent breastfeeding room or the temporary breastfeeding room is located, as well as of the procedure for ensuring its use.

Mandatory Creation of Breastfeeding Rooms in Public Places:

  • The mandatory creation and operation of permanent breastfeeding rooms in the following public spaces is foreseen:
    • Airports and ports
    • Malls
    • Higher education institutions
    • Libraries
    • Museums
    • Hotels
    • Hospitals
    • Cinemas and theatres
    • Sports venues, such as:
    • Stadiums (closed and open),
    • Stadiums
    • Sports centers and
    • Pools

The Council of Ministers will issue Regulations for the definition of minimum requirements for breastfeeding areas as well as the obligations of employers, which will be sent to you in due course.

It is noted that this Law enters into force twelve (12) months after the date of publication in the Official Gazette of the Republic, i.e. on 25 June 2026.
