Acquisition of Electronic Identities

The Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy informs that as of Monday 27/01/2025, the Electronic Identity (IDME.CY) grant program has been launched by the Cypriot Government for Cypriot citizens over 18 years of age.

The Electronic Identity is the official electronic identity of the State and is issued by the Electronic Identity Provider, JCC Payment Systems, after licensing by the Department of Electronic Communications.

The grant program concerns the provision of 100,000 Electronic Identity Cards, of which the first 30,000 electronic IDs will be completely free, on the basis of first come first served, and the remaining 70,000 will be at a subsidized price with the final cost for the citizen being €15 euros, from the normal value, which is €50/three years.

IDMe.Cy Electronic Identity – Your identity in the digital world!

The Identity Card, which has a duration of 3 years, with the right to renew, consists of two certificates:

(a) The electronic identification certificate, which is used to access public information systems with a high level of assurance (from Cy Login), as well as e-government portals of other European countries such as Sweden, Estonia and Latvia.

(b) The certificate of approved electronic signature, which is used for the electronic signature of documents. It is noted that the approved electronic signature has the same legal force as the handwritten signature and will be able to be used in all electronic transactions that provide for handwritten signature to date for their processing.
