The Consumer Protection Service (CPS) of the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry, as the competent Authority in Cyprus for the operation and management of the European Rapid Exchange of Information System for Dangerous Products other than foodstuffs, informs consumers that in the week beginning 28/04/25 (RAPEX – Report 18) 99 products that present a risk to their health and safety have been notified to the System.
These products were identified in the markets of several European Union (EU) Member States and then notified to the RAPEX Safety Gate System.
Consumers can be informed about dangerous products on the website of the Ministry of Health.
The 99 products were allocated for market control purposes as follows:
- Fourteen (14) to the Consumer Protection Service.
- Fifty-six (56) in the Department of Pharmaceutical Services.
- Seventeen (17) in the Department of Labor Inspection.
- Six (6) in the Department of Electromechanical Services.
- Four (4) in Health Services.
- Two (2) at the Road Transport Department.
The products related to the Consumer Protection Service, as well as the corresponding entailed risks, are described in the table below. It should be noted that products with serial numbers 1 to 13 have been evaluated by the European Commission as serious risk products, while product number 14 has been evaluated by the European Commission as a lower risk product.
Recommendations-Warnings
The Consumer Protection Service calls on importers, distributors, sellers who may have such products to immediately stop making them available and notify the Service.
The Consumer Protection Service also calls on consumers, in case they possess the above products, where appropriate, to stop using them and return them to the seller, i.e. to the store, from which they have purchased them, and at the same time to inform the seller accordingly.
It is noted that, according to the Certain Aspects Concerning Contracts for the Sale of Goods Law of 2021, in case of purchase of a non-compliant product, the consumer is entitled to a replacement of the product, so that the product complies with the terms of the sales contract. If this is not possible, then the consumer is entitled to withdraw, i.e., to return the product to the seller and to receive back the full amount paid. It is reminded that the above rights are valid for a period of two (2) years from the initial delivery of the product to the consumer and that the sole responsibility towards the consumer always lies with the final seller.
In the event that the seller refuses to comply with the above consumer rights, the consumer is invited to submit his complaint in writing through the website of the Consumer Protection Service.
