EUROPEAN PACT FOR SOCIAL DIALOGUE
(European Pact for Social Dialogue)
The European Commission appoints a European Social Dialogue Envoy to strengthen Social Dialogue
On 5 March 2025, the European Commission and the European Employers’ and Employees’ Organisations signed a European Pact for Social Dialogue, which upgrades the role of the Social Partners in the formulation of social, employment and labour market policies.
The Pact aims to address the key challenges facing European economies at a time of rapid global change. It reaffirms that social dialogue is an integral part of the European Social Model and that it plays a crucial role in maintaining the competitiveness of European businesses, increasing productivity, creating quality jobs and ensuring social fairness.
In addition, it is confirmed that social dialogue remains an essential tool to ensure the adaptation of labour markets to the digital and climate transitions and that workers acquire the right skills.
The Pact establishes a framework with concrete actions to be taken by the European Commission and the Social Partners to strengthen the social dialogue and promote stronger consultation with the Social Partners.
It is extremely important that for the first time the EU appoints an “Envoy for Social Dialogue” whose mission will be to ensure the proper functioning of the social dialogue by conducting meaningful and timely consultations with the Social Partners and channelling the concerns of the Social Partners stemming from the social dialogue at national level; in the European Union institutions, raising awareness of social dialogue within the European Commission.
The Federation of Employers and Industrialists (OEB), as a Member of the European Employers’ Federation “BusinessEurope”, actively participates in European events, especially those related to employment and social dialogue.
