The Cyprus Employers & Industrialists Federation (OEB) participated to the Forum organized by the Gender Equality in Employment and Vocational Training Committee, on Sexual Harassment in the Workplace, held on Wednesday 28 June 2017 in Nicosia.

The Director-General of the Ministry of Labor, Welfare and Social Insurance, Mr. Andreas Assiotis, addressed the Forum on behalf of the Minister. Moreover, the Chairwoman of the Gender Equality Committee, Mrs. Louiza Zannetou–Christodoulidou welcomed the Forum’s participants i.e. representatives from OEB, the trade unions, the public service and people engaged in the promotion of gender equality in the workplace.

At the Forum, OEB’s Industrial Relations & Social Policy Officer, Mr. Polyvios Polyviou, presented a ruling of the Industrial Disputes Tribunal in a case of alleged sexual harassment, pointing out the necessity for enterprises and organizations to adopt a Code of Conduct to address this atrocious phenomenon.

Mr. Polyviou stressed out that OEB has developed a plethora of actions aiming to provide reliable information and training to Employers with regards to their legal obligations as well as on controversies related to harassment and sexual harassment at workplaces. Moreover, he noted that OEB was the first organization in Cyprus to develop a Code of Conduct for Sexual Harassment at Workplace in 2004. The objective is to ensure a decent and healthy working environment in which the dignity and personality of any worker, man or a woman, is protected and respected.
