Annual Change +4.7%<\/em><\/p>\n

The Industrial Production Index for the month of March 2026 reached 116,7 units (base 2021=100), recording an increase of 4,7% compared to March 2025.<\/p>\n

During the period January-March 2026, the index showed an increase of 1.5% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.<\/p>\n

In the manufacturing sector, an increase of 2.8% was observed compared to March 2025. An increase was also recorded in the sectors of electricity supply (+19.0%), mines and quarries (+9.2%) and water supply and material recovery (+3.9%). <\/p>\n

In the manufacturing sector, the most significant positive changes, compared to March 2025, were recorded in the following economic activities: production of basic metals and manufacture of metal products (+8.5%), manufacture of rubber and plastic products (+7.1%), manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (+4.5%) and food, beverages and tobacco products (+3.5%). The largest negative changes were observed in the activities of manufacture of machinery and equipment, motor vehicles and other transport equipment (-4,8%) and manufacture of furniture, other manufacturing activities and repair and installation of machinery and equipment (-3,9%). <\/p>\n

Comparing the rates of change for the period January-March 2026 with the corresponding period of the previous year, the most significant increases are observed in the collection, treatment and supply of water (+10.1%), the supply of electricity (+7.4%) and the production of basic metals and the manufacture of metal products (+6.4%). The activities in which significant decreases in production are observed, compared to the period January-March 2025, were those of manufacture of furniture, other manufacturing activities and repair and installation of machinery and equipment (-6,2%), manufacture of machinery and equipment, motor vehicles and other transport equipment (-5,4%) and production of textiles, clothing and leather goods (-4,7%). <\/p>\n

Methodological Information<\/strong><\/p>\n

Purpose<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Index of Industrial Production expresses the monthly change in the volume of production in the sectors of mining and quarrying, manufacturing industries, electricity supply, water supply and material recovery, i.e. in sectors B, C, D and E of the statistical classification of economic activities NACE Rev. 2 of the European Union. The indicator does not include wastewater treatment, waste collection, treatment and disposal and remediation activities, i.e. codes 37, 38.1, 38.2 and 39 of sector E. <\/p>\n

Data Collection<\/strong><\/p>\n

The collection of data is carried out by the Statistical Service, either by telephone interviews or by e-mail. The collection begins five to ten days after the end of the period under review and is usually completed within a month and a half. In the mining and quarrying sector, the main quarry products are covered, but not the supporting activities for the extraction of natural gas. In manufacturing, all businesses with a production value of 2,000,000 euros or more or employing 20 or more people are covered, while a sample is taken from smaller businesses. For the supply of electricity and the collection, treatment and supply of water, data are obtained from administrative sources. <\/p>\n

Calculation Method and Publishing Practices<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Industrial Production Index has 2021 as its base year, i.e. it shows the monthly change in production in relation to the monthly average of production in 2021. In the base year, the average of the Production Indices for the twelve months is 100.0. For example, if the Production Index for a month is 103.4 this means that the production for that month increased by 3.4% compared to the average monthly production of 2021. <\/p>\n

For the compilation of the total Index of Industrial Production, the weighted average of the individual indices for the various sectors of industry, as defined in the statistical classification of economic activities NACE Rev. 2. The coefficients used for the weighting are derived from the value added of enterprises’ output in the base year (2021) and reflect the value added of each subsector in relation to the total value added of the Industry sector.<\/p>\n

The compilation of the Industrial Production Index is carried out in the context of the implementation of Regulation (EU) 2019\/2152 on European business statistics. The Index is sent monthly to the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) and in a corrected form (seasonally adjusted and adjusted for the number of working days). No corrections are made for publication at national level. <\/p>\n
