{"id":52621,"date":"2026-04-09T10:31:37","date_gmt":"2026-04-09T08:31:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.oeb.org.cy\/oeb-annual-general-meeting-28-april-2026-the-services-sector-in-2025\/"},"modified":"2026-04-09T10:31:37","modified_gmt":"2026-04-09T08:31:37","slug":"oeb-annual-general-meeting-28-april-2026-the-services-sector-in-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oeb.org.cy\/en\/oeb-annual-general-meeting-28-april-2026-the-services-sector-in-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"OEB Annual General Meeting, 28 April 2026 &#8211; The Services Sector in 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF OEB \u2013 Tuesday, April 28, 2026<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>The Services Sector in 2025<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>On the occasion of the Annual General Meeting of the Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB), which will take place on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 and which will be addressed by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, OEB issues this communiqu\u00e9.  <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Services Sector in Cyprus showed an improvement in <strong>2025<\/strong>, contributing substantially to the country&#8217;s overall economic activity and resilience.<\/p>\n<p>The most important improvements were recorded:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>in <strong>Accommodation and Food Services<\/strong>, with an increase of 9.5%<\/li>\n<li>in <strong>Administrative and Support activities<\/strong>, with 7.4%<\/li>\n<li>in <strong>Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities<\/strong>, with an increase of 4.6%<\/li>\n<li>in <strong>Information and Communication<\/strong>, with an increase of 4.3%<\/li>\n<li>in <strong>Transport and Storage Activities,<\/strong> with 2.8% and<\/li>\n<li>in <strong>Real Estate Management<\/strong>, with a positive change of 0.4%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The above data confirm the decisive role of the Services Sector as a key pillar of the Cypriot economy, enhancing its contribution to the country&#8217;s growth, employment and international competitiveness.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>(Tourism)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tourism in Cyprus recorded strong momentum and new historical records in 2025, according to official data from the Cyprus Statistical Service.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 2025, <strong>total tourist arrivals<\/strong> amounted to <strong>4,534,073 visitors<\/strong>, showing an increase <strong>of 12.2% compared to 4,040,200 arrivals in 2024<\/strong>, confirming the sustainable development of the sector and the strong position of Cyprus as a tourist destination.<\/p>\n<p>During <strong>December 2025<\/strong>, tourist arrivals amounted to <strong>156,959<\/strong>, recording a remarkable increase <strong>of 18.0% compared to December 2024<\/strong>, reinforcing the overall positive picture at the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Trends during the year also highlight that key markets made a strong contribution to the growth of overall arrivals. In <strong>December 2025<\/strong>, the main countries of origin were: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Israel as<\/strong> the main market with <strong>19.1% of total arrivals<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>United Kingdom<\/strong> with <strong>19.0% of arrivals<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Poland with<\/strong> <strong>11.3%<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Germany<\/strong> with <strong>7.4%<\/strong> and<\/li>\n<li><strong>Greece<\/strong> with <strong>7.3%.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In terms of <strong>tourism revenues<\/strong>, the most recently available aggregated data for the period <strong>January \u2013 November 2025<\/strong> show that receipts exceeded <strong>\u20ac3.6 billion<\/strong>, increased compared to the corresponding period of 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The continuous increase in tourist arrivals throughout 2025, along with the strengthening of revenues, reflects the strong outlook of tourism for the Cypriot economy and further strengthens Cyprus&#8217; image as an attractive, competitive and tourist destination throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>(Health)<\/p>\n<p>In 2025, the Health Sector in Cyprus continued to be at the center of economic and social developments, with the GHS entering a phase of maturation and intensifying discussions around its long-term sustainability and effectiveness. OEB highlighted, through documented interventions, the need to strengthen expenditure control mechanisms, limit abuses and further improve the quality and efficiency of the health services provided. <\/p>\n<p>In 2025, particular emphasis was placed on the financial management of health expenditure, the optimal use of available resources, as well as the interconnection of health with productivity and the resilience of the economy. At the same time, OEB highlighted as critical issues the ongoing shortage of nursing and specialized medical staff, the need to modernize procedures and the utilization of digital health and innovation as tools to improve the operation of the system. <\/p>\n<p>Through its actions and proposals, OEB continued in 2025 to support the full administrative and financial autonomy of OKYPY, the maintenance of the overall budget of the HIO, as well as the stability of contributions, underlining the need for predictability for businesses and employees. At the same time, it has actively contributed to the formulation of policies and legislation concerning various health services, which strengthen a resilient, sustainable and quality health system, which is now treated not only as a social benefit, but also as a strategic pillar of economic development and social cohesion. <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>(Digital Transformation)<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the Digital Transformation of Cypriot businesses, OEB continued to play an active and substantial role in 2025, implementing a series of actions and initiatives aimed at accelerating the digital transition and enhancing innovation.<\/p>\n<p>Important for OEB continues to be its active participation in the DiGiNN Cyprus Digital Innovation Hub, an innovative, co-funded project that aims at the digital upgrading of businesses and the development of modern digital skills. Through targeted training, guidance and support actions, the project contributes to the adoption of new technologies and the enhancement of the operational efficiency of businesses. OEB&#8217;s contribution focuses on promoting cooperation between businesses and institutional bodies, as well as taking advantage of the digital opportunities created by technological development.  <\/p>\n<p>As part of its overall strategy for digital transformation, OEB proceeded in 2025 with the following indicative actions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the establishment of a Digital Transformation and Innovation Committee of OEB, with the participation of experienced professionals from all key sectors of economic activity,<\/li>\n<li>the continuous support of the Cyprus Association of Information Technology Companies (CITEA) and the Association of Telecommunications Companies (SETIL), which belong to the strength of OEB,<\/li>\n<li>the organization of a business mission of Cypriot IT companies to Qatar, with the aim of exploring new markets and partnerships,<\/li>\n<li>supporting the 4th CITEA Digital Cyprus Conference, as well as CITEA&#8217;s participation in the international technology exhibition GITEX in Dubai,<\/li>\n<li>the organization of a specialized seminar on &#8220;Introduction to the use of Artificial Intelligence tools for operational efficiency&#8221;, in the framework of the European DiGiNN program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Through the above interventions, OEB continued to act as a catalyst for digital maturation, enhancing the competitiveness of Cypriot businesses and contributing to the formation of a modern, resilient and innovative production model.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>(Shipping)<\/p>\n<p><strong>2025<\/strong> was a year of strong presence and resilience for Cypriot shipping, with developments that continued to strengthen Cyprus&#8217; position on the international shipping map. Shipping contributed about 7% to Cyprus&#8217; <strong>GDP <\/strong>during the year. <\/p>\n<p>The further development of the maritime ecosystem contributed in 2025 to supporting and expanding related activities and services, such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>fuel supply services,<\/li>\n<li>maritime technology and digital solutions,<\/li>\n<li>legal, accounting and advisory services;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>enhancing the added value of the sector to the Cypriot economy.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, the Cyprus Registry continued to record a significant increase in the total tonnage of registered vessels, reaching the highest level in the last two decades, with an increase approaching 20% in total tonnage in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, Cyprus maintains one of the strongest positions internationally in the shipping sector, with the Cypriot fleet being among the largest in the world and among the top flags of the European Union.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Realizing the significant contribution of the Services Sector to the Cypriot economy, OEB proceeded with a series of initiatives in 2025:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It held Conferences, Workshops and Exhibitions with the aim of supporting businesses operating in various sectors of the Services Sector.<\/li>\n<li>He collaborated with Ministries and competent bodies for the presentation of Sponsorship Plans to businesses.<\/li>\n<li>It awarded companies in the Services Sector in the context of the Cyprus Innovation Award Competition of OEB.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>During the Annual General Meeting of OEB, which will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, the course of the Services Sector will be discussed, among other things.
