The Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) informs you that the Department of Labour Inspection (TEE), the competent authority <\/strong> for occupational safety and health issues, has issued the attached announcement regarding the launch of the European public consultation on the ban on the use<\/u><\/strong> of Perfluoroalkyl<\/strong> substances (<\/strong>PFAS<\/strong>)<\/strong> in chemical mixtures and articles<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Some of the most important industrial sectors using PFAS are the production of food contact materials<\/strong> (e.g., food packaging, non-stick surfaces in pans and pots), textiles, leather goods and clothing, building materials and materials for chrome plating, electronics, firefighting (firefighting foams and fire protection clothing), food processing, and medical equipment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The consultation is exclusively concerned with the socio-economic impact of a possible ban and the possible impact of the PFAS restriction <\/u><\/strong><\/u> on different sectors of the economy<\/u><\/strong>. <\/strong><\/strong> <\/p>\n

Affected businesses (manufacturing industries, importers, distributors),<\/strong> as well as the general public, can submit comments or data on the proposal until 25 May 2026<\/strong> via the website of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA):<\/p>\n

It is noted that with the completion of the public consultation, the final discussion and the vote on the restriction of use at the European level will follow.<\/p>\n

The comments to be submitted may include the important problems to be addressed as well as suggestions (e.g. the non-availability of substitute substances and the need to allow additional time to replace PFAS substances with other substances).<\/p>\n
