The Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) expresses deep disappointment and deep concern about the postponement of the examination by the Parliamentary Committee on Health, of the two legislative amendments submitted by the Minister of Health, to facilitate the employment of nurses from third countries.<\/p>\n
At a time when the health system is facing severe shortages of nursing staff, the inability to make decisions that will lead to a mitigation of the problem causes enormous dissatisfaction among all affected health service providers.<\/p>\n
OEB considers it particularly worrying that, instead of the Government bill being examined and approved by the Parliament, trade union pressures prevailed over the fundamental right of patients to access quality care, but also the need to ensure the smooth operation of the health system.<\/p>\n
This development may soon even lead to the restriction of health services or even the suspension of the operation of clinics and hospitals, as the OEB has repeatedly warned.<\/p>\n
In light of the developments, OEB will immediately convene a broad meeting of the collective bodies of Health affected by the shortages of nursing staff, in order to examine the situation as it has developed and to make decisions on the next steps and the appropriate measures.<\/p>\n
