The Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) informs you that the Department of Labour Inspection (TEE), the competent authority for occupational safety and health issues, in the context of a pan-European online sales control campaign, has carried out relevant inspections in online shops that sell chemical products in the Cypriot market<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

It is noted that purchases of chemical products through online shops are subject to certain legislative obligations, in particular when the products contain hazardous chemicals.<\/p>\n

The inspections were carried out mainly in supermarkets, DIY stores and large department stores operating in Cyprus and provide the possibility for online sales of chemical products such as household cleaners, paints, paints\/varnishes, adhesives, inks, bookstore supplies, chemicals for swimming pools, car care products, building materials, e-cigarette e-liquids, air fresheners, etc<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The results of the campaign showed high rates of non-compliance<\/strong> with the provisions of the current legislation of 80%.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The placing of chemical products on the market, through online stores, is covered by the provisions of European Regulation (EC) No. 1272\/2008 on the classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures (CLP Regulation). <\/p>\n

According to the Regulation, the websites of online stores must be properly designed and must include information regarding the hazards of each chemical product<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The information may be provided on the website, either by posting a photo of the product where its label will be clearly visible, and\/or by quoting text that includes all the risk elements, exactly as they are written on its label.<\/p>\n

In addition, this information must be provided directly to consumers in the Greek language, prior to the completion of the purchase, to ensure that they are fully informed about the potential risks of the products to be purchased and take appropriate measures for their safe use.<\/p>\n

As a result of the above, the Technical Chamber of Greece informs all economic operators involved that they must take the appropriate measures to comply with the above provisions, while otherwise, the prescribed administrative sanctions will be imposed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
