Annual Change +1.9%<\/em><\/p>\n

The Industrial Production Index for the month of March 2025 reached 109.8 points (base 2021=100), recording an increase of 1.9% compared to March 2024. During the period January-March 2025, the index showed an increase of 3.8% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. <\/p>\n

In the manufacturing sector, an increase of 2.1% was observed compared to March 2024. An increase was also recorded in the sectors of mining and quarrying (+5.4%), electricity supply (+0.7%) and water supply and material recovery (+0.6%). <\/p>\n

In the manufacturing sector, the most significant positive changes compared to March 2024 were recorded in the following economic activities: manufacture of electronic and optical products and electrical equipment (+9.4%), wood industry and manufacture of wood and cork products, except furniture (+6.8%) and manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (+5.8%).<\/p>\n

The only negative changes were observed in the production of textiles, clothing and leather goods (-7.1%), manufacture of paper and paper and printing products (-6.1%) and food, beverages and tobacco products (-0.1%).<\/p>\n

Comparing the rates of change for the period January-March 2025 with the corresponding period of the previous year, the most significant increases are observed in the manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (+11.6%), in the manufacture of electronic and optical products and electrical equipment (+11.4%), in water collection, treatment and supply (+11.1%) and in mines and quarries (+10.0%). The only activities in which there were decreases in production compared to the period January-March 2025 were those of the manufacture of paper and paper and printing products (-9.2%), the recovery of materials (-3.1%) and the production of textiles, clothing and leather goods (-2.8%). <\/p>\n

Methodological Information<\/strong><\/p>\n

Purpose<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Industrial Production Index expresses the monthly change in the volume of production in the sectors of mining and quarrying, manufacturing, electricity supply, water supply and material recovery, i.e. in sectors B, C, D and E of the NACE Rev. 2 of the European Union (EU). <\/p>\n

The indicator does not include wastewater treatment, waste collection, treatment and disposal and remediation activities, i.e. codes 37, 38.1, 38.2 and 39 of Sector E.<\/p>\n

Data Collection<\/strong><\/p>\n

The data is collected by the Statistical Service, either by telephone interviews or by e-mail. The collection begins five to ten days after the end of the period under consideration and is usually completed within a month and a half. <\/p>\n

In the mining and quarrying sector, the main quarry products are covered, but not the supporting activities for the extraction of natural gas. In manufacturing, all enterprises with a production value of 2 million euros are covered. or employing 20 or more people, while a sample is taken from smaller businesses. For the supply of electricity and the collection, treatment and supply of water, data are obtained from administrative sources. <\/p>\n

Calculation Method and Publishing Practices<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Industrial Production Index is based on 2021, i.e. it shows the monthly change in production compared to the monthly average of production in 2021. In the base year, the average of the Production Indices for the twelve months is 100.0. For example, if the Production Index for a given month is 103.4, this means that production for that month increased by 3.4% compared to the average monthly output of 2021. <\/p>\n

For the compilation of the total Industrial Production Index, the weighted average of the individual indicators for the various branches of industry, as defined in the NACE Statistical Classification of Economic Activities, is calculated. 2. The factors used for the weighting come from the value added of the production of enterprises in the base year (2021) and reflect the added value of each subsector in relation to the total value added of the Industry sector.<\/p>\n

The compilation of the Industrial Production Index is carried out in the context of the implementation of Regulation (EU) 2019\/2152 on European business statistics. The Index is sent every month to the Statistical Office of the EU (Eurostat) and in a corrected format (with seasonal correction and correction based on the number of working days). No corrections are made for publication at national level. <\/p>\n
