{"id":46548,"date":"2025-07-31T11:02:50","date_gmt":"2025-07-31T09:02:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.oeb.org.cy\/?p=46548"},"modified":"2025-07-31T11:02:50","modified_gmt":"2025-07-31T09:02:50","slug":"unjustified-strike-at-larnaca-public-transport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.oeb.org.cy\/en\/unjustified-strike-at-larnaca-public-transport\/","title":{"rendered":"Unjustified Strike at Larnaca Public Transport"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"138\" data-end=\"405\">Concerning the 48-hour strike taking place today and tomorrow at <strong data-start=\"203\" data-end=\"237\">Larnaca Public Transport (LPT)<\/strong>, the company operating the bus network in the city and district of Larnaca, the <strong data-start=\"318\" data-end=\"372\">Cyprus Employers &amp; Industrialists Federation (OEB)<\/strong> wishes to clarify the following:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"407\" data-end=\"877\">The <strong data-start=\"411\" data-end=\"452\">Ministry of Labour &amp; Social Insurance<\/strong> has provided written clarification that, in cases where trade unions believe there has been a breach of the collective agreement, they are required <strong data-start=\"601\" data-end=\"707\">to present supporting evidence to the Department of Labour Relations prior to taking industrial action<\/strong>. Only the <strong data-start=\"718\" data-end=\"752\">Department of Labour Relations<\/strong> has the authority to determine whether a violation has occurred. <strong data-start=\"818\" data-end=\"858\">No such finding has ever been issued<\/strong> by the Department.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"879\" data-end=\"1186\">Despite this, and despite the announcement of strike measures by the unions, the company engaged <strong data-start=\"976\" data-end=\"1020\">constructively in extended consultations<\/strong>, submitting <strong data-start=\"1033\" data-end=\"1069\">realistic and improved proposals<\/strong> within the framework of the collective agreement and applicable legislation, with the aim of avoiding confrontation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1188\" data-end=\"1357\">LPT <strong data-start=\"1192\" data-end=\"1222\">serves as a model employer<\/strong>, offering competitive terms and working conditions to its staff, with a long-standing record of <strong data-start=\"1319\" data-end=\"1356\">respecting all agreed commitments<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1359\" data-end=\"1630\">The unions\u2019 decision to proceed with strike action <strong data-start=\"1410\" data-end=\"1471\">unnecessarily and disproportionately penalises the public<\/strong>, particularly those who rely on public transportation, while <strong data-start=\"1533\" data-end=\"1607\">unjustly targeting a company that consistently fulfils its obligations<\/strong> towards its employees.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1632\" data-end=\"1844\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">The <strong data-start=\"1636\" data-end=\"1675\">only viable way out of this impasse<\/strong> is through the <strong data-start=\"1691\" data-end=\"1768\">implementation of the provisions set out in the Industrial Relations Code<\/strong>, and OEB <strong data-start=\"1778\" data-end=\"1843\">calls upon the Ministry to enforce it fully and without delay<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Concerning the 48-hour strike taking place today and tomorrow at Larnaca Public Transport (LPT), the company operating the bus network in the city and district of Larnaca, the Cyprus Employers &amp; Industrialists Federation (OEB) wishes to clarify the following: The Ministry of Labour &amp; Social Insurance has provided written clarification that, in cases where trade [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":44672,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[15],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-46548","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-latest-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.6 -
