Χαιρετισμός του Προέδρου του
Συνδέσμου Τουρκοκύπριων Επιχειρηματιών (İŞAD)
κ. Metin Shadi
Address by the President of
Cyprus Turkish Businessmen Association (İŞAD)
Mr Metin Shadi
His Excellency, Mr Demetris Christofias,
The Chairman of OEB, Mr Philios Zachariades,
And Dear Members of OEB, Ladies & Gentlemen,
I would like to thank you, for giving me the opportunity to address the Annual General Meeting of esteemed OEB, for the second time. I would like to convey you, the best wishes from my colleagues, members of Turkish Cypriot Businessmen’s Association. (ISAD)
This year unfortunately, I have to repeat last year’s remarks that ISAD still believes that Cyprus is going through this very turbulent times as the recent past. But we also realize that crises create great opportunities, if they could be identified and seized.
Therefore on the contrary to the statements, the conjecture at present time seems and presents an atmosphere conducive to a settlement that the peoples of Cyprus have been demanding since the beginning of the first inter communal troubles – which in those days the authorities said would only last a few months. This is still very fresh in my memory and I am personally considering every year passed without a settlement as a big loss and real waste by us, the people of Cyprus. ISAD thinks that it is about time that we change our paradigms and leave behind all the suspicions and negative approaches and give positivity a chance.
We believe that now is high time to terminate, hopefully positively, this problem for the benefit of all. This is our expectation and this is the need of Cyprus and Cypriots We demand a just and an immediate solution for the sake of all the Cypriots.
If this cannot be achieved immediately, for any kind of an excuse, we invite both sides representing both communities to sign an official declaration to proclaim what is up to now agreed and accepted topics by both sides, for infusing trust and confidence to Cypriots and show the world at large that Cypriots are interested in a solution earnestly.
Even if failing to do all that , we suggest that Marash –Varosha must be opened for rehabilitation of its owners , you may say as a part of goodwill or give and take basis , but certainly as a confidence building measure , which in result will generate an economic activity enhancing project that we need in these economically hard times.
Last but not the least we must see genuine encouragement from both sides for cooperation in economic activities within Cyprus to trade with each other. We must trade with each other, we must learn to cooperate as traders and local manufacturers and take the pride in supporting Cypriot companies and economy.
We need to recreate the new atmosphere of understanding and cooperation and thus making way to better ,physical, political and economic environment for our children and generations to come. As always, we, as ISAD, are open to friendly and amicable cooperation between us with no qualms.
